my pokemon teams

I just started playing Pokémon again recently, so I feel like listing the teams that I have had from games past. It's always great when all that time training your critters to beat annoying Gym leaders pays off.

I think my pre-conception about Gyarados had to do with how huge it was in the anime. It's even worse with Onix. Ugh, how could something so huge and heavy be so weak?

I don't know what was up with Dark being physical. I also thought that Poison, and maybe Ghost, should have been special. It makes more logical sense to me that way.

Onix was the first Pokemon I was really disappointed about. You'd think something so irritating to beat and capture would actually be powerful, but nooo.

Poison would actually be pretty cool (and yeah probably a Special-type movepool as well), except it is only SE against 1 typing. :\

The starters are definitely getting worse or more unbalanced. I've never trained a Torterra or Empoleon, so I can't give an opinion on who's worse. I just know that one is more physical and the other has better specials stats. I get confused with the new DP system of moves being classified as physical or special individually as opposed to by type. But I suppose it's for the better and gives more options. Like in LeafGreen, I trained a Gyarados (high physical, low special) as my water type, and I hated how I felt compelled to give it physical attacks when it had all these elemental attacks it could learn. For that reason, Gyarados was way overrated in Gens I-III.

imho Gyarados is never overrated :p But that was really what I thought over the past few years without giving that much thought about stats, all you know is "Oh it's REALLY powerful". Yikes, I just realised how awful its Special Attack was. :|

I do like the new classification system though, it allows Pokemon to actually play on their designed strengths instead of being relegated to obscurity because of elemental type-attack mismatches (like Kingler's previously Special-type Crabhammer). How odd it was that clearly physical attacks like Bite used the Special Attack stat...

Blastoise has nostalgic value for me because it was my very first. But since the starters are all elemental types, I value special attack the most, and the fire types are usually the best there.

My faves are defo Charizard and Typhlosion; they're almost equally good, but I'll give Charizard the edge because it learns Flamethrower much earlier. I played LeafGreen earlier this year with Charizard, and it was almost too strong. Its Flamethrower could kill in one move even without a type advantage.

Yeah Fire-types are great that way with the Special stats, and all 4 Fire starter-lines kick major ass. The only things that resist Fire are... Rock, Water and Fire? I'm going to try using Charmander in FR/LG now that they've handily given it Metal Claw. Either that or Charmander from the original RB games just for a good challenge.

One thing that bugs me about the starters though is that from Gen III onwards, they've had much more unbalanced stats generally. In Gen IV we have 2 slow-ass starter evolutions... and Infernape. I almost hate Infernape for being too cheap and a Blaziken ripoff, but damn he's good. I <3 Torterra for learning Earthquake though. Empoleon... waddly, slow and quite a horrid movepool, think I'll use him to make my game mondo difficult as well. I don't like hating the starters but I think he's one of the poorer ones we've had. :(

I'm pretty lenient before calling something ugly, but Rhyperior is indeed ugly or just really horribly designed. Lickilicky doesn't look too bad IMO. It's just funny-looking. Although few and not counting the legendaries, I think there are already some Pokémon who are both cute and powerhouses. Lapras, Dragonite, and Meganium come to mind.

And yes, I really do think Jigglypuff has a very good chance of winning. It's the second most popular Pokémon of all time, and it seems to be popular here too. It's still in your BB game, isn't it? The next most popular, I imagine, are the three starters, so I hope one of them can win--hopefully Blastoise or Charizard.

The worst part about Rhyperior is that they actually call the item that you need to trade with Rhydon for the final evolution a 'Protector'. So those fugly growths really are protectors. :| OK, yeah, Dragonite etc. do count as adorable-badass. <333 They need MOAR of those. I've got to start using Lapras on a regular team one of these days.

It's still in my BB game, and technically it's not an actual animal but anyway... O_o I certainly don't mind if it wins, predictable as it may be. At least I like it. :p Agreeance on that slimy toad Venusaur being the worst of the first starter evolutions, it's still a very solid Pokemon and certainly superior to the other RBY Grass-types though. You really can't go wrong with the starter lines, haha. What's your favourite starter final-evolution? Mine is probably Typholosion, it's badass, kinda cool-looking and I've just had a lot of good memories using it to bulldoze through the Silver game.
